Although retired from a job that I did for 47 years, my self-identity is not Retired Pastor. I still have my credentials and occasionally do pulpit supply, but who I am NOW is not what I did earlier in my life journey. A pension and social security has allowed me to further that journey and pursue my understood vocation of Healer in some new directions. Reiki is one of many ways of being a channel for Life energy (for my Christian friends, read Holy Spirit) to bring balance to a persons energy centers and stimulate their immune system. It is in the same family as the bibles mention of laying on of hands. It is a potent add-on to Western technological medicine. It is not magic, and I did not go to Hogwarts to learn it, as some of my old colleagues have suggested. The efficacy of the healing hands applied to different parts of a recipients body is being affirmed by modern science. In the same vein shamanic practice is not some superstitious primitive religion, in fact it is not a religion at all. It is a body of common practices that many cultures used to achieve theta brain wave (dream stage) trances for tapping into the life energy and bringing to consciousness truth that is not readily available, even blocked, in beta brain wave (wide awake daily intercourse) activity. Reiki and Shamanic Practice are not (I repeat) some form of religion in competition with Christianity or any other religion. Reiki and Shamanic Practice are compatible with all religious practice that seeks the wholeness and well being of people. Reiki is a mode of shamanic practice. Out of the same concern for helping people achieve health and wholeness that led me into pastoral ministry, I am trying to grow in my ability to help people heal spiritually, emotionally, and physically. My credentials and certificates indicate that I have heavily invested time, effort, and money in learning these disciplines already. I am engaged in practicing what I have learned even as I seek more insights and wisdom. I have not arrived at some fixed status. As one that LIFE has summoned to heal, I have a wealth of pastoral tools in my bag and am continuing to add shamanic tools and particularly Reiki to that tool set.
