Although some sleet and snow is falling north of I 40 this morning, we do not expect travel problems today. There may be problems tonight. Here is the Special Weather Statement we issued early this morning: 354 AM CST FRI JAN 23 2015 ..Light snow accumulation expected in Mid Tennessee tonight... Rain will spread into Mid Tennessee today as a low pressure system moves along the Gulf coast. A little sleet or snow may mix with the rain today over the northwest counties of Mid Tennessee and along the Kentucky border, but no accumulations or travel problems will occur today. For tonight, the low pressure system will begin to move up the east coast. Colder air will come into Mid Tennessee, changing the rain over to a period of snow late tonight. Most locations will have one quarter inch or less of slushy snow. The Cumberland Plateau is expected to have around one half inch of snow, with snow ending by daybreak Saturday. A few slick spots may develop late tonight into early Saturday morning, especially for the Upper Cumberland region. Any travel problems will improve rapidly after sunrise Saturday morning as the sun comes out and temperatures warm quickly above freezing.
