Although women have been granted a greater degree of choice - TopicsExpress

Although women have been granted a greater degree of choice through access to the market, the “traditional” notions of “emotional responsibilities” still linger and prevent women from making fully reflexive and individualistic choices without the structural constraints of first-modernity. Whats more, Rich (2005, 497) looked into the extent of “gendered identities”; it was found that whilst women perceive their ability to make choices as significant, it was found that their interpretations of “femininity” (Rich, 502) were still socially constructed by Neo-Liberal society, women were still undermined by traditional structures and women’s underachievement was often seen as an individual fault rather than as a result of gender inequalities. How can we improve womens freedom? Has late-capitalism made significant improvements or should we look elsewhere? Does research over-estimate or under-estimate the problems women face in society?
