Alucinat: Foodstuffs of the Soul. Glossary Adoration is to respect, reverence, strong admiration or devotion. The word is derived from Latin, meaning to worship someone or something. Affection is an emotional state, the object of a living thing such as a human or animal. Affection is synonymous to “love”, but distinguished from passion. Affection can be displayed in different manners in different cultural societies. Altruism is selflessness, the opposite of selfishness. Pure altruism consists of sacrificing something for someone other than the self (e.g. sacrificing time, energy or possessions) with no expectation of any compensation or benefits, either direct, or indirect (e.g. receiving recognition for the act of giving). Choleric is one’s bad temper or angry mood. Delusion is a belief held with strong conviction despite superior evidence to the contrary. It is distinct from beliefs based on false or incomplete information, dogma or illusion. Dogmatism is from Greek Dogma, which means “opinion or belief”. It can also mean to think, to suppose, to imagine”. The plural is dogmata. Dogmatism is a set of beliefs held stubbornly, in ideological, political and scientific beliefs. Egos is a Latin, meaning “I”. The ego comprises the organized part of the personality structure that includes defensive, perceptual, intellectual, cognitive, and executive functions. Conscious awareness resides in the ego, although not all of the operations of the ego are conscious. Egotism is closely related to loving ones self. Egotists are arrogant and boastful who never recognize the accomplishments of others, while sensitivity to criticism may lead them to narcissistic rage as a sense of insult. Ethos means the fundamental values particular to a specific person, people, culture, or movement. Humanism emphasizes the value of human beings, individually and collectively, over established doctrine or faith. Humanism refers morality centered on human kind, without attention to any notions of the divine. Illusion is distortion of senses the brain interprets under sensory stimulation. Illusions may occur with any of the human senses, based on general assumptions the brain makes during perception. Hearing voices in the sound of running water is an illusion, whereas hearing voices regardless environment is hallucination. Gnosticism is derived from Greek word meaning “knowledge”, enlightenment”, and “salvation”. The world associated with matter, flesh, and time is imperfect one. The upper world associated with the soul is perfect and eternal. Logos is the term for a principle of order, principle, standard and logic. Melancholic is one who has the feeling of sadness, and is in lack of energy. Paganism is primitive belief based on superstitions. In Pagan worldviews the divinity and the material and/or spiritual universe are one, i.e., divinity is inseparable from nature and that deity is immanent in nature. Pathos is one’s tender emotions, such as pity, sorrow, contagious warmth of feeling, action, or expression. Patriotism is an artificial superstition, an ideological weapon for battle against people of different creed, language, region, culture, beliefs, or of a competing economic system. Phlegmatic is one who is calm, and not easily excited or worried. Sanguistic is a mood of cheerfulness and being hopeful about the future. Superegotism is the internalization of cultural rules, mainly taught by parents applying their guidance and influence. It criticizes and prohibits one’s drives, fantasies, feelings, and actions.
