Alumni ICS volunteers from Tajikistan and Afghanistan had a chance to represent VSO Tajikistan in an ADB Asian Youth Forum on 30 April and 2 May, 2014. During this forum volunteers shared their ideas and suggestions on youth involvement in development as part of the ADB agenda for the Asia Pacific region. In a key activity, VSO Tajikistan ICS alumni as well as other youth from the region, were engaged in the production of roadmaps in four areas: education, governance, environment and water security. Muhammad Bobiev, VSOT ICS volunteer 2012 says, “Asian Youth Forum strengthened my understanding of significance of youth engagement in tackling problems which our region faces on its way to development. I also came to an understanding that information exchange among youth at a regional level is more effective in finding solutions to existing issues.” The Youth Forum was followed by the 47th Annual Meeting of Asian Development Bank (ADB). VSO T ICS alumnus from Afghanistan Sajid Muhammad was given the opportunity to ask a question on behalf of young people of Asian Pacific region to The President of ADB, Mr. Takehiko Nakao. Overall, participation in this event was a motivation for young leaders to take actions within their countries and contribute to improvement of their communities. Also, meeting with inspiring people from all around the world was an incentive for self-development and hard work.
