Alzheimers diseased has robbed my beloved mother of her golden years. No memories of raising me and my brother. No memories of her vacations to Las Vegas. No memories of friends or loved ones. No memories of me and her. All have eroded with this debilitating disease. The most difficult thing to accept is that she dedicated her years before being ill to taking care of my grandmother and aunt. To be stricken with this seems so unfair. This strong beautiful woman beat down and reduced to an unintelligible or mute shell is unfathomable to me. There is no solution and not one FDA drug to slow it down or reverse it. Visitors that used to come see her no longer do. A woman who did so much for others is as a faded memory to them as her disease forces them to be to her. But not for me! I love you mom and although you dont know or remember anything, I do. That will have to be enough until God brings you home. Youre present with me even though youre absent. I will treasure and keep safe our memories together. Its my turn now.
