Am I in the wrong? I went to my doctors today to receive my Vitamin B12 shot. I told a staff person I would like to see my chart to read the results of my latest blood work. She said I will get a copy of it for you, Honey. She proceeded to stand in line for the copier. I said, Forget the copy, just let me see the numbers. She ignored me and continued to wait her turn at the copier. She made the copy which was more faint than the original. I said, Just let me read the original that ones too light. She said, I dont see the difference, Honey. This chick is at least 20 years younger than me and her terms of endearment are annoying me to high heaven. You are never supposed to address people you serve with terms of endearment because it is belittling. I said, If you have to give me a copy then make me a copy that is much darker. She went back to the copier to stand in line, made the copy and it was no darker than the first. Of course shes fenced in by a frosted window so all I can do is drop it back on her desk and let gravity handle the rest. She said, I will read the numbers for you. Thats exactly what I need. A staff person to read off my numbers to a packed waiting room. I said, Give me the original and just let me read it. She finally complied. I gave the chart back to her. I said,Its disrespectful to do anything other than what the patient requests and its all the more disrespectful to be addressed by a term of endearment. The next thing I know the doctor--who is not my doctor--calls me aside and tells me that he didnt appreciate the way I talked to his staff or sent back the copy. You threw it at her! You can either apologize to my staff or go find another doctor. I only said, Im sorry thats the way you see it. Then I changed the subject.
