Am I the only Father in the "Free World" who regrets not teaching his Children how to properly dig an Infantry Fighting Position known as a Fox Hole? It is never too late to learn so let me introduce you to a Pick Ax and a Shovel... First hand chose a location that has a degree of natural cover from Enemy fire and/or provides clear and effective lanes of fire upon the Enemy or projected Enemy avenues of approach. Start digging keeping depth uniform during construction in case it needs to be used before completion. Have reference points in the structure that show lanes of field of fire and/or terrain points on the horizon/line of sight. Prepare sumps for both Grenades and drainage. Always keep improving the structure(s) to include aerial camouflage ... a good Fox Hole can make the difference. More later, keep digging. Nothing more rewarding than a sharp square head short handled shovel making an indentation in Mother Earth. Once you have learned How To prepare a Fox Hole you will be introduced to digging a "Hide" in a surreptitious manner and with the intent of not being detected.
