Am I the only vendor who uses the Used Car Salesman excessively - TopicsExpress

Am I the only vendor who uses the Used Car Salesman excessively pushy angle to deal with rude customers? I keep seeing all these threads where we talk about different kinds of situations we deal with or put up with. Booth barnacles, aggressive critics, preachy types, just to name a few. When I read through the comments of threads on these topics, most people seem to be mostly in the Smile and wave till they leave or Tell them no thanks, walk away please schools of thought. I dont push people away, I push them to buy something. That is often more effective at pushing them away and occasionally, they actually buy something. Heres some examples: Booth Barnacle Just looking: Hi, I see youre interested in insert product name. Youve been looking at it for awhile now. Would you like to get one? No thanks, Im just looking. Are you sure? Youve been looking at it for awhile now. -silence- Go for it. Im sure youd love it if you could take it home with you. Either walks away because doesnt want it or buys it. Win-Win. Booth Barnacle talker: *has been talking about favorite things for a bit too long* You know, this insert product name would go great with a collection you have for that favorite thing. Potential Art Theif for 3D items: Hey, I think Ill try making this. Buy one. That way youll help me make more ideas for you to steal later on and youll have something to study. Viewpoint pusher: Two can play this game. They come up to you, ignore your business, and push their viewpoints. You can ABSOLUTELY ignore their viewpoints and push your business. When they stop for breath or try to get your to validate them with phrases like, Am I right? or You know what Im saying? Interject with You would love this product. I think you should buy it. I feel I should specify that I reserve this angle SOLELY for people who hurt business because it pushes them away or helps get them to actually buy something. When it comes to regular customers, people who are interested in maybe buying what I have, I quietly let them look at it themselves and offer occasional input on what theyre interested in. Im much more careful to craft a pleasant shopping experience for the average shopper or passerby. Do any of you use strategies like this one? Do you think you might try it out at your next event? Post in comments different types of rude customers youve had to deal with and Ill tell you how Ive dealt with them using this line of thought.
