Am a big fan of comeback stories. I love hearing and celebrating these incredible beings who after a moment in the sun, tumbled down and hit the rock bottom only for them to crawl their way back to the top against all odds. Life is full of twists and turns, no matter who you are,at one point or the other you will find yourself contending with a setback and experience that all-too-familiar gut-wrenching numbness. Even small failures can stalk you like a dark cloud, causing others to question your abilities. Worse, it can seriously undermine your self-assurance. Financial problems, business failures, Loss of jobs, health issues, divorce, loss of a loved one - these and many more visit all of us. Top on my list is Steve Jobs, the APPLE founder. This is partly because i know what it means to start a company and have people try to kick you out of it. At the age of 21, He co-founds Apple, and by the time he is 23 hes a millionaire. He becomes legendary. And then, at 30, he has this humiliating defeat and he is kicked out. But he persists, he has this incredible tenacity. He holds on and he comes back with triumph after triumph, driving this company to new heights, creating the greatest corporate comeback and success of our time. Its a unique story. Then we have Robert Downey Jr. Robert had great success at an early age including an Academy Award nomination for the 1992 film, Chaplin. But between 1996-2001 he was arrested numerous times on drug-related charges. His setbacks led to probation, jail time and court ordered drug rehabilitation. After five years of setbacks he decided to put his life together. He now has the lead role in two widely successful movie franchises, Iron Man and Sherlock Holmes. Today Downey is one of the most popular actors in Hollywood. We all know about Abraham Lincoln. Many consider Lincoln the greatest president in American history. He led the country through it greatest moral and military crisis, essentially saved the country from destruction and directed it toward restoration. Lincoln grew up in meager circumstances, failed at business twice and had what most would call a nervous breakdown. He lost when he ran for Congress, lost twice when he ran for the Senate and lost as a vice presidential candidate. Lincoln was then elected the 16th president of the United States, led the country to reconciliation and won re-election. His leadership acumen, political skill and outstanding speeches all contributed to his amazing comeback. How about Jesus Christ? Jesus was the most important person who ever lived. His life, death and resurrection literally changed the course of human history. Jesus was guilty of no crime and had done incredible good, yet he was crucified, the most painful and horrendous death in the ancient world. There can be no greater setback than to be cruelly and unjustly killed. Three days later Jesus had risen from the grave. The resurrection proved his victory over death and sin. It was the ultimate victory. Coming back to life is the greatest comeback in history. I can go on and on, talk about Nelson Mandela, Tiger woods and so many others. Comeback stories are inspiring and cause us to believe there is hope for our comeback. God specializes in second chances, in new beginnings, in comebacks. No matter what has happened, always remember you can make a comeback. The best thing about hitting rock bottom is that the only way you can go is upwards. Choose to rise again and put the naysayers to shame.
