Am eagerly waiting the Aldous Huxley book, Brave New World (1932) I have ordered via Amazon, but slowly being sucked into the story of Graham Swifts Waterland (1983) that revolves around the Norfolk Fens, am intrigued by his mysterious writing style of story telling. Last night saw me watching just over one hour of a You Tube film copy of Huxleys, Brave New World, looks like a late 1970s early 1980s film? Verrrrrrry badly acted, but I persevered so as to follow the books theme, not watched it all yet, but hope to. What interests me is the notion that Huxleys themes were supposedly based on the future (I watched part of his 1958 tv interview last night also, when he was 64yrs...he was 32 when he wrote Brave New World...and a Leo, which I found interesting), but in hindsight most of what he wrote about was already happening around him. This was 1931, two years after The Great Depression and people were starving, poor, out of work, in various countries there were people of similar mindsets thinking about how a Utopian/Dystopian future would be. I may be wrong with my dates, but even Hitler was writing his version in 1933 with Mien Keimf (My Life) in a German prison cell...Germany was left devastated after the first world war ended in 1918 and never fully recovered. When we dont get involved in helping in the recovery of devastated areas, it breeds unrest, creating this need for a Utopian existence, an Eden that can never really exist, because that in its self is dysfunctional. It all comes back to being balanced and allowing the scales to fluctuate now and again so as to avoid stagnation. Too much of a good thing is also bad for us. Huxley was spot on about the control of the Media and tv usage...he was wary of Madison Avenue at that time and the power it weilded in the world, and for some people they still dont see how they are affected and controlled by all the hype and propaganda that gets thrown at us on a daily basis. But there is a revolution coming, I feel, and happily I feel it will be one of using ones own common sense and judgement about the worlds affairs. People are starting to wise up. youtube/watch?v=ek5vse2_Aq0&feature=youtube_gdata_player
