Am just back from watching Pride in a very packed-out cinema - with a very appreciative audience, who applauded during the final scene - absolutely brilliant! :) Its based on real events that took place in 1984 and 85, when London-based lesbian and gay activists campaigned and fundraised to help Welsh miners during the lengthy strike of the National Union of Mineworkers. Its very funny, very poignant and very moving - and really inspirational. It reminded me of how far weve come - and the great importance and significance of small changes and campaigns. It also reminded me of how hugely brilliant and important News from Nowhere Bookshop is, and how very proud I am to be working there, and to do my own little bit to help make small, meaningful differences, and to help to support others who are doing the same. Do go see it, its marvellous. And keep going - regardless of what particular freedom youre fighting for - it all really does make a difference. Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, its the only thing that ever has. ~ Margaret Mead
