Am trekking with gorillas (and Bonnie) in Rwanda so havent spoken - TopicsExpress

Am trekking with gorillas (and Bonnie) in Rwanda so havent spoken out about the huge Cuba news immediately. There is a volume to say. Like hundreds of thousands, I have long held the mystique of Cuba in my imagination. Add to that my unique experience of being there many times over the past 35 years, mostly vis a vis The Cuba Swim, at long last successful last year. I have been invited to contribute a blog on Cuba, my perspective, my feelings for the people, my reaction to the recent historic lifting of sanctions, for Huffington Post in January. They will run a different blog every day that month so thats my chance to spill my guts about this country that has meant so much to my life. But for the moment, let me just say that I have cried in elation for the Cuban people, with this joint decision of President Castro and President Obama. This was the right thing to do, on both sides. As for the good people of Cuba, I celebrate their chance to come out of poverty and make use of their extraordinary level of education. As for my fellow Americans, I am thrilled that you will enjoy open travel to a magnificent land and visit an extraordinary people. CUBA LIBRE, without betraying their noble stance of Semper Fidelis.
