Amanda Anthony More general idiocy from the FDA!!! >:-( There is no value in opioid use, since the risk of addiction is so high. As the article points out, the Super-Vicodin is pure, synthetic heroin. Generally, they do mix hydrocodone and oxycodone (The form of opiate used in Percocet) with Tylenol or Ibuprofen. This is to reduce the amount of pure mixture, so that the opiate cannot be crushed down. As the article points out, this variety of new Vicodin will be pure, and potentially devastating as Oxycontin was. The CDC is against, yet the FDA is not. And why is that? Because the FDA is a government bureaucracy, willing to be moved by the influences of the pharmaceutical companies, whose research on the medications they push through most often not purely backed by sound, medical testing rather by the companies testing through chemical analysis and predicted outcomes, based upon such a narrow window of test subjects. The FDA also relies upon the companies to provide reports of dangerous side-effects, which come from the medical community itself. In some instances, the companies will not do so. There was one anti-cholesterol medication, I think it was Baylor, back about ten years ago, that took the lives of around 88 people in less than a year. The doctor that began to track it went to the company, and they said the number was too minor. He then went directly to the FDA, and after an investigation did commence, they found that the company was distorting the facts. Yet Cannabis is not considered a viable pain medication, which it is proven to be. There was a study done in Spain where it was shown to reverse the growth in brain tumors. It is known to be effective in a number of treatments, yet the FDA turns a blind eye on it. Why is that? Because there is no viable bureaucratic control on their end. Regulation would be defined through de-criminalization, distribution centers, and NO pharmaceutical company involvement. Given the FDAs track record, maybe it is time that they have a shadow committee, say of a NON-GOVERNMENT AGENCY watching over their doings, made up of, I dont know, DOCTORS!!! Maybe then things would be balanced out, and some of the stupidity that goes on might, just might, go away...
