Amanda S. Lickers absolutely NAILS IT in her disruption of Bill McKibben of 350.org in regards to the colonial and capitalist underpinnings of big green NGOs and non-profit organizations that have learned to capture and quell the collective energy brought about by the demand for political action on the issue of global climate change. A must listen for any participant in the upcoming Peoples Climate March. so yall mightve heard - Bill McKibben came to Tiotiah:ke and I called him out on some of the racist praxis that 350.org engages in, specifically around the upcoming Peoples Climate March. Heres an excerpt from part of my intervention and an interview I did with Carolin HG on No One Is Illegal | Personne nest illégal | Nadie es ilegal Radio on CKUT FM. Nia:wen to The Stimulator for making this available on youtube. The interview touches on the role of NGOs as tools of negotiation for the state on behalf of corporations, their purpose to re-direct momentum into reformist organizing and the importance of understanding this idea of justice. “[Climate Change] is resulting in Black, Brown, Red & Yellow bodies piling up… we always talk about “Just Transition” and “Green Economies” and to me this really undermines the fact that capitalism requires the colonization of land and resources in order to extract for monetary benefit. So if we are moving towards a “Green Capitalism” we are just moving towards different forms of resource colonization and different forms of genocide. … As people who are living fence line to refineries - whether you identify as Onkwehon:we or African, whether you are a new migrant or a few generations and Chicano - I think it’s really important for us to understand it’s White supremacy that allows colonization to become a social norm. It’s White supremacy that fuels capitalism and if we can’t tackle these issues from an anti-racist and anti-colonial perspective then we’re not tackling them at all.“
