Amanda asks Well, we tried...My son Jacob who is almost 8 wanted to go to the movies to see Frozen, he was so excited! We got snacks, got our seats and watched the previews then 5 minutes into the movie, the little girl gets frozen by her sister, and Jake got so upset that he started screaming oh no, oh no, oh no, I am so upset...ahhhhhh....really loud and the more we tried to console him, the worse he got. Luckily there was only a couple other families in the theater. But, we are at an impasse...we have known for a while that when he gets emotional he doesnt know what to do with those feelings, so he ends up screaming and getting angrier and angrier...which results in a meltdown. As he is getting older he is getting more emotional about things and he doesnt know to process those feelings and we dont know how to help him...we have tried everything including behavioral therapists who are only book smart about these things. Now dont get me wrong, they try, but they usually dont have enough real life experience to help...they try to lump him into some mold and you just cant do that...each child with Autism is so different that it is hard to figure out what is going to work for them. Do you know what has worked for you so we have more to try for Jacob.
