Amanda has been updating her Mom this evening. Meschell will be - TopicsExpress

Amanda has been updating her Mom this evening. Meschell will be returning to SF prior to the transplant early tomorrow. The nurses have began to advise Matt and Amanda how the procedure will go. They say it will be very intense as they will be working on the baby checking his vitals as often as every 5 minutes. There will be several people in the room overseeing this. The healthy marrow from the donor is infused intravenously, much like a blood transfusion. The stem cells make their way to the empty marrow spaces and engraft and settle in. Within two to four weeks, the new marrow begins making blood cells. Josiah will be extremely susceptible to infection. He will continue to be monitored in the hospital for a few weeks after the transplant in a specialized patient care unit where he is in isolation. There will not be any contact with others. Every measure will be taken to minimize his risk of infection. This will be his recovery time and also the time needed to watch and see if his body accepted the bone marrow. Her Mom shared this scripture with her: Psalms 112:7-8...I will have no fear of bad news, my heart is steadfast trusting in the Lord. Thank you all for your love and continued prayers.
