Amarinder asks people to compare his 5 years’ development with Badal’s 7 years Congress Deputy Leader in the Lok Sabha Capt Amarinder Singh appealed to the people of Patiala to compare his five years tenure between 2002 and 2007 with that of Parkash Singh Badal’s seven years. “Development came to a screeching halt in Patiala in 2007 when Badal took over and he did it out of sheer vengeance”, Capt Amarinder alongwith his wife Ms Preneet Kaur told a press conference here today. He asked as what happened to Rs 260 crores his government had left with the Patiala Development Authority (PDA) he had set up exclusively for the development of Patiala. He said, when he left the government in 2007 the PDA had Rs 260 crores with it. “The moment the Akalis came to power the money was shifted to Lambi”, he said, while adding, not a single brick has moved in Patiala since then. Replying to a question that Mr Badal had accused him and Ms Preneet Kaur of not doing anything for Patiala, he remarked, “it is for the people of Patiala to see and compare our five years with their seven and a half years”. He added, MLAs and MPs have a limited role in development as they can only plead and demand. Ms Preneet Kaur said, in the last year only she had spent more than half of Rs 5 crores MPLAD funds for Patiala city only. Similarly he asked Mr Badal as what happened to Rs 150 crores the union health ministry gave for upgrading the facilities at Rajindera Hospital Patiala at Ms Kaur’s instance. He said, the money had come in the month of February and six months had passed and nothing was known what happened with the money. “Probably money might have been shifted to Bathinda and Lambi”, he remarked. He said, it was absolutely unbecoming of a Chief Minister to say that if Congress candidate was elected from Patiala there will not be any development. This, he added, only vindicated their charge that Mr Badal was being vindictive towards Patiala. “It is only for the second time he has come to Patiala”, he pointed out, while adding, “Chief Ministers do not discriminate and unlike Mr Badal I always ensured fair deal for Bathinda and Lambi”. Capt Amarinder had a dig at Mr Badal for comparing himself with Maharaja Ranjit Singh. “Why are you insulting Maharaja Ranjit Singh?” he remarked when asked to comment on Mr Badal’s claims that his rule was like that of the great Maharaja Ranjit Singh.
