Amateurs press secretary is back from hols - summary of new season this far: Steins Thistle Amateurs have made a cracking start to the new season, after a disappointing end to the last one, by winning their first three opening games, all away from home and scoring no less than 19 goals in the process! With a lot of new signings on board and more significantly a few of the players coming up from the Under-21 set up, Steins have gone through a rigorous pre-season training campaign, set up by the coaching team of Greig Mitchell & Steff Martin which also included a number of friendlies - all won comfortably too! The League season started off in style through at Chryston on the 10th August - winning comfortably by 5-0! Goal scorers that day were John Lynne, Andy McRoberts, Cammy McVicar, Gordon McRoberts and Fraser Kay This was followed up by a midweek game through at Stirling on the 14th August, when they won by 4-2. Goal scorers on that evening were once again Andy & Gordon McRoberts, then a further 2 cracking goals from Michael Kane to tie the game up. Last Saturday Steins traveled through to Newton Mearns in Glasgow and despite having 9 players missing from their set up still came away with a stunning 10-0 victory, with Coach Greig Mitchell a spectator in goals! The long list of scorers that day were a brilliant hat-trick from Andy McRoberts, Davy Weir (2) although should have had a hat trick! Tireless Ross Grant, and two of the subs who came on in the second half with a point to prove, Cammy McVicar & Jordan “Trigger” Kelly both scored two goals each and could have easily scored more too if not for the heroics of the Mearns keeper! Steins are due to play their first home League game of the season on Wednesday night (21st Aug) against Kirkintilloch MW, and again this Saturday at home to Linwood, this time in the first round proper of the League Cup.
