Amazing lunch at Starbucks. Im sitting and having a skinny mocha and knitting (yeah, thats a topic for another posting). Two people sit right next to me and had the following unbelievable conversation. Both are 40-something out-of-work directors/VPs of HR, currently looking for jobs. For 45 minutes they discussed incompetent poorly trained junior recruiters, horrible applicant tracking systems, awful phone screening processes, interviews where the HR person is late for the interview, nasty aptitude tests, lack of follow up, etc. They even mentioned several large Denver companies where the process was exceptionally bad, including places where I know senior HR personnel. A couple of thoughts, first, the overwhelming irony that these are the senior personnel with the ability to impact these processes and second, shouldnt they know better than to have that conversation at a Starbucks? Im still shaking my head.
