Amazing what 1 inch can cost!!!! When doing a retaining wall in the City of Los Angeles 8 foot tall requires you to get a landscape architect to draw and design an elaborate plan to install plants that will cover and hide your wall and make it appear within 3 years that it is not a wall and you have to, of course pay for the zoning dept to check your plan and approve it and then you have to pay to install all this blah blah blah OK well shorten that wall 1 inch and can have the landscape waved by the power of the zoning planner right now. If I wanted to keep that 1 inch more and get the landscape waved, I would have to pay 8000 bucks, and file a shit load of paperwork and have a public hearing to ask for their blessing on waving the plants! I am learning so much in this job but I guess it is ever changing because every year they change the codes and most of the professionals dont have time to study all the changes until they come faced with them! I whined and was bugging the planner for a week over this! To install this landscape we would have narrow a private road by 1 foot that people below us use to get to their homes and the road is narrow already.... He didnt offer the info till I was a pain in his ass! I feel like a Winner today =) Moral to this story..... BE A PAIN IN THEIR ASSES
