Amazingly well written for a young person...copied w/o permission; she did not know how to place a share on her note. Ali McLeod 10 hrs · Lancaster, NY · Edited LIFE WITH POT & CROHNS/UC What do you mean youre in a flare? I thought you could just smoke and it will go away. No. The weed does not take it away. Its not a cure. Its a temporary pain relief, and at that it usually just dulls the pain to a manageable level rather than take it away completely. I still have crohns, I still get sick, no I still cant eat that or drink this, yes you still need to be understanding. I may never be right on time for work or social obligations. I cant do anything about it no matter what I try. It happens when it happens and Im not sorry to you about it. Im sorry for my GI tract, actually. It sucks enough to deal with this disease on its own. So adding more stress to it for me by complaining about my lateness or random disappearances during our little outings, is not helping. Actually youre making it worse by stressing me out. Youre just going to have to accept that and trust that Im doing my best to please everyone. Sleepovers are fun, be it 17 with your girl friends, or in your 20s with your boyfriend. Well, its different for me. Sleepovers mean I need the spot closest to the bathroom, and a way to not feel embarrassed. The latter is wishful thinking. Shopping, parties, family dinners, lazy days at home- all interrupted by this disease usually without fail. Then there comes this moment of clarity. Its been a while since you were diagnosed (or misdiagnosed, rediagnosed, do they have no idea what theyre talking about? ). Now youre used to the idea that its not just going to go away. Now it goes from being the end of the world to being an unfair but not uncommon thing of life. Despite the pain, and the embarrassment, the explanations, the loneliness, the missed plans, the days in bed, the day your boss was a total jerk, youre okay. Its your normal now and its other people who cant understand. It is not easy to have people assume youre making things up, or blowing things out of proportion. It gets more frustrating by the day when your boss assumes you just want to go home and be lazy, when really you feel that stabbing, burning pain deep in your gut. It hurts and it will never go away. And when its not your stomach, its the joint pain. Every muscle seems to ache. People just need to understand that. We really dont complain as much as you feel we do. For as much as we admit to you, were feeling ten times worse. Were learning every day how to best approach our body. Its a choice between getting through the day with either the intense pain of digestion, or the hunger until we can go home, and eat our only meal of the day most likely, all to avoid missing obligations. Can you comprehend that feeling? We dont eat so that we can have a relatively normal day like yours. Sometimes that doesnt matter anyways. We can still get sick. No matter what you think, those of us who smoke marijuana really do find it to be relieving. It dulls the pain to a manageable level. It does not mean we wont get sick anymore. It just means we might get 4 hours between meals and the restroom rather than a half hour. It can relieve joint pain and the headaches and the nausea. It just helps. Please learn to understand that, and respect what were trying to manage. Think twice before saying its in our heads, or were making excuses. It is not about getting high. Its about being able to live a full life rather than just existing.
