Amazon said it had $83 million worth of unsold Fire Phones at the end of the third quarter this year. The Fire Phone went on sale this summer, but all indicators pointed to disappointing sales. Reviews were pretty bad across the board. Business Insider also stopped by several AT&T stores during the Fire Phones first few weeks and found that very few customers were buying the device. --- Which for me begs the question, with all the high powered data science they are throwing at determining recommendations to show buyers based on passed purchases you would think theyd have some data science thrown at gauging the demand for the product and then incrementally boosting supply to satiate demand and thus not being left with large amounts of surplus supply when demand didnt emerge. Creating an analysis that gauges production rate to the returned results of generated demand is not easy but its not level set theory either one would think Amazon would have thought that through before committing so much to the phones.
