Amb Amina Fawaz : FOR PRESIDENT, SPMCN. After following this amiable Ambassador for Peace for the past six months by trailing her through her posts and comments- most of which are reflective of the cogitations of a doughty pacifist- and despite the disagreements inherent in human interactions, most of which are engendered by an acute impatience for dissenting views, and that at the same time, questions one`s maturity in handling such disagreements, I make bold to say that Amb Amina Fawaz has proven in her commentaries and actions that she can sway opinions in the right direction. By swaying opinions, results are achieved. In achieving results, one`s leadership skills and brain contents are brought to use. With her handling of issues thus far in this Society, the results have been a glowing manifestations of an intellect that have a thorough grasp of the needs and objectives of the Peace Society. Little wonder, like an amazon, she exorcised us of the benchwarming spirit when she declared with a deafening conviction that there won`t be room for benchwarming (I prefer Facebook-warming here), and that it is either we are all in or out! Having made up her mind to contest for the position of president, there is no gainsaying the fact that she will bring to bear that amazonian qualities and leadership skills, if she is elected, on that challenging position. One of the premises of her campaign is gender equality. At no time than now, is gender equality a must for every organisation. Considering that the 21st Century is an Information age, one that primarily challenges- and that has become notorious for vomiting great event-changing factors that question- the status quo, and with the United Nations at the forefront of actualising gender equality in countries and organisations, it becomes more dangerous to ignore an idea- in this case, the election of Amina Fawaz as a unifying factor for our Society- whose time has come. How dangerous? It is dangerous to ignore gender equality at this time because it is no longer fashionable and rationale to ostracize women in virtually any activity. Gone are the days, when women cannot do what men do! Should we ignore this timely and present-age idea of gender equality which is the trademark and one of the premises of Amina`s campaign, we deny our goodselves one of the fundamental principles on which this Society is founded: CO-EXISTENCE! Now is the time for our women to co-exist, in the true sense of the word, with men not as subjects but as equal to men! Should we fail to fertilize this flowering idea, we will remain stunted in respect of the demographic of our women folk who incidentally are natural peace warriors whose importance in this crusade for a peaceful society and mutual co-existence is greatly indescribable. It is said that, those who prevent peaceful change, make violent change inevitable. We seek a peaceful and democratic change in the Peace Society as prompted by its Constitution. Amina Fawaz represents this change. She will rally the womenfolk. The only violent change we can witness here is the non-challant attitude of members which will unavoidably result in the death of the Society.
