Ambassador Moreno is a man who has devoted his life to following the letter of the law and government by laws, not men, not emotions, not political causes, not social movements. This posting by Belize Prayer Network calling for a national referendum on S53, also advocated by Pastor Scott Stirm in a recent op-ed piece in Amandala, is exactly the opposite of government by law. The supreme law of the land is the Constitution of Belize. The issue currently in the court is whether S53 violates the fundamental rights guaranteed in that constitution. Fundamental rights are not subject to referendum or any other vote. Thats why they are in the Constitution, so demagogues with their own agenda can not subject them to majoritarian attack. Rather than letting this legal process take its course, these folks want to do an end run around the constitution for their own purposes. And look at the introduction of this page. Seven Mountains is another term for Dominionists, a group from the U.S. that seek to establish fundamentalist Christian control over the seven pillars of society. They want to control YOUR life in all its aspects. They are not interested in democracy. They are pushing for de facto theocracy. Be afraid; be very afraid.
