Ambassador Richard Norland offers condolences on the death of seven Georgian soldiers I am deeply saddened to hear of the loss of seven brave Georgians soldiers in Afghanistan today. On behalf of my country, I extend my deepest sympathies to the families of those killed and wounded in Afghanistan, and to the entire Georgian people and nation. These soldiers were targeted because they are strong, fighting without preconditions or fear, showing the bravery and heroism that is emblematic of all Georgians. They fought shoulder-to-shoulder with U.S. Marines and Afghan government forces in Afghanistan - as equals, friends and brothers. This is a fight for the values we share. General Breedlove, who commands all U.S. Forces in NATO, spoke with Prime Minister Ivanishvili this evening to express deepest condolences and reaffirm support for Georgian forces. Always remember that Georgia is not alone in this fight: the U.S. will work with Georgia and NATO allies to counter this new targeted threat.
