Amen! Christians co-opting the Seder is fraught with problems. I - TopicsExpress

Amen! Christians co-opting the Seder is fraught with problems. I believe the late Krister Stendahl, former bishop of the Church of Sweden, said it best: We must cultivate a holy envy of the Other. What he meant was that each of our faiths touches a part of G-d that is unique to their experience. Our Jewish friends have Torah and the richness of their own liturgical Tradition. It is theirs, not ours. We have Jesus Christ and our own liturgical Tradition. That is ours, not theirs. To cultivate holy envy is to know that I cannot possess what the Other has - but must learn to love others and know my own incompleteness ... and vice versa. We are interdependent ... and G-d created us to be so. If a Christian wants to experience a Seder, go as a humble guest to a Jewish home and experience it as a gift. (Of course ... if youre in LA ... theres always Mexodus, right Eric Halasz?)
