Amen, TC. I met a woman at the bus stop yesterday who was surely pushing 75. Shed injured herself and was unable to do her waitress job. I asked her if she had sought unemployment benefits until she was mended and she laughed. She makes about $2.00 an hour and her tips pay her rent and bills. And technically she doesnt even qualify for unemployment benefits. While I tend to lean toward a democratic socialist position, I agree heartily with my brothers and sisters in the Anarcho-syndicalist corner; particularly as regards reformed unions standing up to a RIGHT TO WORK state. I implore you to encourage your friends to look into the life and efforts of Eugene Debs. I have been a member of IWW for years and carry a temporary boogie card whenever I play north of the Mason Dixon. Dont go to Chicago, or Boston, or Phili, or New York without a Union card and be surprised if you get hassled. Good on them! I mean the big Unions are definitely in need of reform, but they are also very much needed still and if youve a trade of any sort be it musician, welder, pipe-fitter, or waiter (all of which Ive done), I encourage you heartily to join a Union if one is available, or seek out the folks who petition for the right of collective bargaining or learn to organize your self. Its shameful to be made to don starch-pressed blacks and whites, and to receive a $100 cheque for a weeks work AND to really honestly report your tips to the IRS. That is one step above indentured servitude and it is WRONG. Blessings to all, Ron
