Amen! The persona that firefighters just sit around, watch TV, eat, and sleep is far from the truth. Firefighters are heroes and lay their life on the line everyday. They give up time away from their family for 24 hours EVERY third day. The significant others, family, and friends of firefighters know all to well the full spectrum of sacrifices that they make. Politicians try to make firefighting seem much less dangerous to the people they represent and dont paint a clear picture of all these things. I am grateful for every firefighter I know, but mostly my dad and my better half. From a young age I have experienced being the life of a firefighters daughter. Going to the firehouse to have dinner with my dad, calling him on the phone to talk the nights he was away (usually because I was in trouble, and mom would say do i have to call you dad? Im calling your dad! haha) Now, I am experiencing the other role as being a firefighters girlfriend. Luckily, I have a dog to be my companion on the nights he is away.. but the house still feels like something is missing. That said, I couldnt imagine being a part of these two heroes family or fire family right now. This is something they will have to recover from for years to come. My thoughts and prayers are with them. Tonight, tell the people you love how much they mean to you. Hug your family, significant other, kids, or dog.. never take a moment for granted.
