Its an ideal way to begin a career in horticulture and open space management. As an Amenity Horticulture Apprentice, you will work on the contract and get paid while you complete your education. The programme is run in conjunction with KEITS, where Apprentices will undertake Level 2 Diploma in Work-Based Horticulture, key skills and one legislative or occupational test. How does it work Apprentices are employed directly by John O’Conner. You will be based at one of our countrywide depots and work alongside experienced operatives and supervisors learning all aspects of grounds maintenance. The KEITS Programme is a work based diploma where you work and receive training on the contract. Training involves all aspects of plant maintenance, cultivation and landscape development. You will also learn about pest control through chemical, biological and cultural methods, operation and maintenance of a wide range of machinery, and soil science. How much will I be paid ? Level 2 intermediate Apprentices will be paid at a rate of £152.00 per week during their first year Level 3 advanced Apprentices will be paid at a rate of £200.00 per week during their first year After the first year in your Apprenticeship you will move onto age banded salary scales. Who should apply? Candidates should work well as part of a team, be committed to learning, ambitious and interested in horticulture. Ideally, applicants will hold at least five GCSEs at Grade A to C, preferably in Maths, English and Science and will have an interest in horticulture. Due to the way the Apprenticeship is funded applicants must have residency status, and we cannot accept applications from holders of degree-level qualifications and above.
