American Hustle: A seductive and strong con drama which focuses on characterizations rather than meeting the tropes of the genre, David Russels hypnotic tale of crime presents an impeccable ensemble cast who are in fine form here. Bale as Irving Rosenfield is a small-time con who is finicky about details, Amy Adams who is his partner in crime who vouches for big-time fame and money, Jennifer Lawrence as Irvs wife is terrifically tipsy and plays dumb in awesomely well, while Bradley Cooper moulds his character with wild ambition and the right amount of vulnerability. Jeremy Renner plays his political character with flourish too. With a smart screenplay and a script laced with sly humour throughout, the film manages to score with a killer soundtrack from the 1970s which amps up the narrative and takes it altogether to a different level. The acting of each of the characters is consistently superb and since the film manages to evoke genuine moments of mirth and surprise every five minutes, the three-hour long stretch does not seem long. A magnificent movie which reflects on the 70s style adding adequate substance to each frame. Rating: 8.5/10 #americanhustle
