American Hustle. Watch it. I’ve got newfound respect for Christian Bale (better known as Batman in the Dark Knight series), and the impossibly perfect Amy Adams, who gets better and better with each new acting role. Director David O. Russell seems to bring the very best in these actors. Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence, Louis CK? Russell’s repeat collaboration with Cooper and Lawrence in last year’s Silver Linings Playbook; Bale and Adams in 2010’s The Boxer? He is the only director whose last two consecutive films have swept nominations in all 4 Oscar acting categories! Watch American Hustle, even if only for Bale’s perfect execution of the classic New Yorker Italian American accent (Bale is not even American...), or for the bad male haircuts, or for the tributes to late-70’s style, music, and fashion.
