American Samoas 377 business entities in 2012 generated $1.2 billion in revenue, employed 7,070 people, and paid out $114 million in salaries. In contrast, the Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas had about 1,339 business establishments, employed 14,215 people but brought in almost the same amount of money as American Samoa, $1.3 billion. In Guam, which has a much larger population than AS and CNMI, 3,099 businesses employed 53,579 people and brought in revenue of $7.7 billion. These statistics released by the U.S. Census Bureau provide a new perspective on American Samoas economy in relation to the other United States territories. Data for the U.S. Virgin Islands will be coming out in July 2014, and beginning in February 2015 for Puerto Rico.
