Before tablets and cellphones, if you wanted to waste time while flying, you picked up the Skymall catalog and discovered a host of things that you didnt know you wanted. Its mostly novelty items like a solar powered battery charger. But it was a fun catalog to read. This week, they announced that they are filing for bankruptcy protection. They cite digital competition during flights, some airlines failing to offer the catalog to passengers, and other outside forces for reasons for bankruptcy. To me, its just another thing that I will remember as part of the flying experience that the next generation will have no knowledge of: Smoking sections on a plane. Choices of entrees served as meals. Free blankets and pillows. Keeping your shoes on in the airport. Decent music to listen too with headphones that would only work on airplanes. etc... Bye SkyMall!! Ill have to find my 5MP camera drone somewhere else.
