Among all of the roles he filled, George Washington was also the president of the Constitutional Convention. He was there when it was proposed, debated, written and ratified. He knew what it meant and intended. And following his words, the Supreme Court has no authority to expand, change or in any way alter our Constitution. Here is what George Washington had to say about our Constitution: "The basis of our political system is the right of the people to make and to alter their Constitution of government. But the Constitution which at any times exists, ’til changed by an explicit and authentic act of the whole People, is sacredly obligatory upon all." In that quote Washington was speaking about the amendment process - the only legitimate way in which to change the Constitution.
