Amosun storms out of APC exco meeting The All Progressives - TopicsExpress

Amosun storms out of APC exco meeting The All Progressives Congress, APC, has resolved to enthrone a new national executive on June 14 following a heated National Executive Committee, NEC meeting in Abuja, yesterday. Also, yesterday, the party pledged to enthrone an elders’ committee to resolve disputes in states with unresolved issues flowing from recently concluded congresses. The NEC, it was learnt, vowed to set up caretaker committees where the elders’ committee fails. One of the flashpoints of the meeting, Vanguard learnt, was when Governor Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun State walked out following a heated argument between him and another NEC member over the correctness of the congresses conducted in Ogun State. Meanwhile, the party also, yesterday, flayed the Federal Government over what it claimed as the administration’s lack of sincerity in the war against terror. In the communiqué read out by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, it was disclosed that the Convention Planning Committee would be chaired by the governor of Sokoto State, Alhaji Aliyu Wammako with Senator Chris Ngige as Secretary. Party sources disclosed that the decision to hold the convention in Abuja was despite the submission of some party elders that the convention be held in Lagos. Some party elders, Vanguard learnt, had insisted that holding the convention in Lagos would not help the desire to give the party a national outlook, a view that eventually prevailed in the course of the meeting. Vanguard also learnt, yesterday, that the national chairman of the defunct New Peoples Democratic Party, nPDP, was proposed to chair the convention planning committee, but the majority of the NEC supported Governor Wamakko for the post. Vanguard gathered that Amosun became enraged when an ex-officio member of the NEC, who reportedly claimed to have monitored the congresses, described the congresses as kangaroo. The source said that shortly after the opening prayer was said, the NEC called for reports from the states with issues with their congresses. VANGUARD
