Amphitheater Concert Rescheduled for Spring MARTINEZ, CA—The Martinez City Council recently approved an allocation of funding for a fall concert at the John Muir Amphitheater. While initial reports indicated that the musical band, Tower of Power, would be the headlining act for a concert scheduled for October 11, 2013, the band was excluded from booking a performance in Martinez during the fall due to a “radius clause” in contracts for previously booked performances at other Bay Area venues. The radius clause prevents an act from booking additional concerts within a certain geographic radius or timeframe that competes with an already booked venue. As a result, neither Tower of Power nor Doctor John, another band under consideration, was available for a fall concert due to other performance commitments. “While we are disappointed that Tower of Power cannot play in October, we are excited about the positive feedback we have gotten from the community about an Amphitheater concert,” said Phil Vince, City Manager. The concert at the Amphitheater will be rescheduled to spring 2014. Popular bands, including Tower of Power, will be approached about performing at the spring concert. This first concert is expected to help the City assess the potential for a summer/early fall concert series in 2014. In the meantime, the City will use the next few months to secure sponsors, identify local food vendors, and prepare the Amphitheater for this exciting new venture. For more information on upcoming events at the John Muir Amphitheater, visit the City’s website at cityofmartinez.org or contact Mitch Austin at 925-372-3554. Information will be posted to the website and shared with the news media as it is confirmed.
