Amy Heffernan Webb asked, Can you great parents help me decide between the spiral method vs mastery method in math? Ive always used Math-U-See (with some Math Mammoth here and there). This past year, I put one daughter who was struggling a bit into ACE math, which I didnt like. I dont know whether to put her back into MUS (Gamma - but now shes behind - if Id just put her into Gamma instead of ACE, shed still be on track), or into Teaching Textbooks level 4, which seems like a good fit, but I just dont know about using the computer every day and how well I would follow up on it. Also, I have two younger guys, one of who I suspect is like his bigger brother with some significant attention issues, so I am wondering if I should just start him in something like CLE from the beginning, or stick with MUS Primer like the other kids used. My other younger guy would be going into MUS Beta...but he is easily bored and overwhelmed. Im wondering if CLE or something spiral might help alleviate that beating a dead horse feeling that sometimes comes with mastery-based curriculum. I, personally, like MUS because I feel its a good fit for me as the teacher to oversee, since math is not my forte, and I now know the curriculum well, having used all levels through Geometry. Help! Any thoughts?
