Amy Learmonth posted to Air Canada Just a little cautionary tale: I flew from Toronto to Rome on air canada on July 7. My bag did not make it (okay, things happen). The events that follow say something about the airline though. For the first few days I called the number they gave me to check on where my bag might be. They told me it was still in Toronto, but they would get it to me. I am on an archeological site in the Italian countryside, far from easy transportation. Several more days past and on Saturday the 12th the person I talked to said it would be delivered on Monday (not my favorite answer, but not too maddening yet). On Monday when I called to see when it would be delivered the operator I talked to said it had been more than five days, so I would have to deal with air canada directly (this is where it gets maddening). I called the air canada number repeatedly. They put me on hold for a few minutes (just to be sure each call cost me 3 euros) before telling me they were all busy and hanging up. I posted to this page. Apparently public shaming is the only way to get a response. Over Facebook they told me they did not know where my bag was, but promised someone from their baggage department would call. No one ever did. Finally on July 16th (no clothes for more than a week) I hired a babysitter for eight hours and made the trek to Rome. (40 euro for the babysitter, about 35 euro in gas, and 10 euro in parking) Frustrated, tired and dressed in someone elses clothing I went to the baggage people and begged to look in their storage room. My bag was there with a tag on it saying it had arrived two days after me and somehow they had paperwork with all my information for me to sign when I picked up my bag. They knew where it was, they knew where I was, but somehow they needed me to miss a day of my vacation and trek several hours back to Rome instead of delivering it as they repeatedly promised they would. — with Gary D.
