An 8-year-old boy fell through a hole in a barn-type structure at 3:40 p.m. on Saturday in Polk County south of Monmouth. The fall was 20 to 25 feet. The boy was helping a family member when the accident happened. A deputy from Polk County Sheriffs Office was the first emergency worker on scene and assisted with CPR. Polk 1 fire personnel responded and continued providing medical attention to the child. There were no criminal elements involved during this investigation. The boy sustained critical injuries and was transported by ambulance to the Corvallis Hospital. The child was then transported by air ambulance to Emmanuel Childrens Hospital in Portland. No names or addresses are being released until family can be notified.
