An American soldier who was held prisoner of war for the past five years is now free. Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, 28, is now under the care of the U.S. military after being handed over by his captors in Afghanistan, officials announced Saturday mainland time. The soldier from Hailey, Idaho, was serving in a parachute infantry regiment of the Armys 25th Infantry Division when he was captured in Afghanistan on June 30, 2009. He was the last servicemember unaccounted for from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan has been freed in exchange for five Guantanamo Bay detainees who will be transferred to Qatar.
