An EXCELLENT article about keeping Christmas organized. I do use a spreadsheet to track all the gifts Ive bought/need to buy and to track ideas that each child gives me so I can pass them on to family who request ideas. When Ive purchased a gift for a person I highlight that portion of the spreadsheet - Im happy to report its all yellow right now! I keep the spreadsheet in my Dropbox app so that I have it with me to refer to when Im out shopping. We adopted the idea of a theme last year and are repeating it this year - 3 gifts per child: 1 thing to wear (I am very loose about the definition of wear, it does not have to be clothing - my daughter is getting a backpack for swimming that she can wear...shhhh...dont tell), 1 thing to play and 1 activity to do (i.e. a class, a show at the local theater with a parent, a basketball game with Dad). This simplifies things SO MUCH. It also prevents me from overbuying, which is SO hard to do when there are so many good deals this time of year. I like any extra help I can get to walk away from more stuff coming into our house! One idea I took from this article is to keep a small stash of gift cards around for those last minute gifts youve forgotten about - this is something I plan to do next year!
