An Edgecombe County K9 deputy fatally shot a 41-year-old Macclesfield man at his home around 4 p.m. Monday. The sheriffs office did not release the name of the deceased or the deputy. However, reliable sources confirmed that Kenneth Shawn Todd was fatally wounded. According to a press release issued by the sheriffs office, the deputy was called to a residence on US 258 South for a domestic disturbance at Todds home. When the deputy arrived, Todd was in possession of a weapon, according to the press release. The information did not specify the type of weapon. According to the press release, Todd charged toward the deputy. After repeated warnings telling Todd to stop, the deputy shot Todd. The press release did not state where the bullet struck Todd. Edgecombe County Sheriff James Knight said the deputy is on administrative leave with pay, which is standard procedure when an officer is involved in an incident involving a shooting. The deputy is required to go through psychological evaluations, which is departmental policy, before returning to work, Knight said. The SBI has been called in to investigate the incident, which is also protocol.
