An Elite team has been formed to nab ‘Big Fish’ News by The Star Online (Source : bit.ly/1yFK0Fm) Reported by Nadirah H. Rodzi 8th December 2014 KUALA LUMPUR — Some of the country’s best personnel have been brought together to form a new elite team that will go after the “big fish” in the underworld. STAGG (Special Task Force for Anti-Vice, Gaming and Gangsterism) is the latest formation under the police force that underlines its determination to snag the criminal kingpins. Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the squad, led by Deputy Comm Datuk Mohd Rodwan Mohd Yusof, comprised 220 personnel of various ranks. “It will focus on bringing in the ‘big fish’ involved in local as well as international syndicates,” he said. “We agree with what the media is saying about the need to arrest the ‘sharks’ because operations only catch the small fry.” The squad, he said, was made up of “the best” – 61 officers, 139 personnel and 20 civil servants – who had all been given special approval by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak for the task. “We talent-scouted 2,000 people and picked only about 200,” he said after launching STAGG at the Forest Research Institute Malaysia here yesterday. STAGG joins the Special Tactics and Intelligence Narcotics Group and Special Task Force on Organised Crime that were formed earlier this year to bust drug rings and serious crime. “With these three elite groups, we are confident that we will be able to nab the kingpins and drag them to court soon,” said Dr Ahmad Zahid. “We will also work closely with the Interpol and Asean Chiefs of Police if the suspects are abroad. Asked if the authorities knew the number of underworld groups linked to gangsterism, he said police were still investigating. “Several have been identified.”
