An Eschweiler building not to be missed! Today’s Hotel - TopicsExpress

An Eschweiler building not to be missed! Today’s Hotel Metro, located in the heart of downtown Milwaukee, got its start in 1937 as a building housing shops and offices. Doors Open Milwaukee offers you a chance to see this Eschweiler designed Art Deco gem up close and personal with its high ceilings and curved walls. The historic building was bought by James Hummert, John Ogden, and John Wolter in 1996, who worked with the late Madame Liane Kuony to bring it back to life as Hotel Metro. Renowned for her design and culinary expertise, Madame Kuony created a softer Art Moderne feel for the hotel, a contrast to the more aggressive Art Deco style popular of the 1930s. The Art Moderne feel of the hotel incorporates sustainability into the very design, utilizing sustainable forest products for the flooring and wood veneers, tile and carpeting made with recycled glass and plastics, and organic cotton for many of the curtains and fabrics. Hotel Metro is definitely a stop to “Add to Your Map” for your Doors Open Milwaukee tour. Free to participants, the hotel is open 10am-5pm Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 20-21. #DoMKE #DoorsOpen #MKE #HistoricMilwaukee bit.ly/DO14_HotelMetro
