Through the series the author establishes a comparison between the Hanafi madhab and other madhabs especially the Shafii madhab and the Malikis one. =>Kitab Al Mabsoot =>By Shams ul Aimmah Abi Bakr Mohammad Ibn Ahmad Al Sarkhasi =>About the Author:Abi Bakr Mohammad Ibn Ahmad Al Sarkhasi or Al Sarakhsi, hails from the ancient city of Khorasan, also called Sarakhs. There is no information about his childhood or family background. Most Authors agree that he died in the year 1090 A.D. / 483 H. Al Sarkhasi wrote many books on Islamic Jurisprudence. His Siyar al Kabir is a series spread over either 4 or 5 volumes. His most famous work Mabsoot or Mabsut, a commentary of shaybanis work is spread over 30 volumes. His other important work, Usul al-Fiqh consumes 2 volumes. He was thrown into prison for Criticising the King, and questioning the validity of the kings marriage to the slave woman of a palace servant. Al Sarkhasi authored parts of Mabsoot and most of Siyar al Kabir in prison. After 15 years of captivity he was released from prison, and died soon after completing Siyar al Kabir. Al Sarkhasi is widely known as the Hugo Grotius of the Muslims. Al Sarkhasi is greatly admired for his phenomenal memory as evidenced from his accurate recollection of the classics while being held in prison. Al Sarkhasi was a strong advocate of the doctrine of istihsan, which he describes as abandonment of systematic reasoning of the scriptures in favor of a different opinion supported by stronger evidence and more accommodating of the populations needs. However, Imam Sarkhasis istihsan is also bound by certain criteriae and conditions which accompany reasoning of any kind.
