An Excerpt from Mom Dr Aroona Reejhsinghanis Biograpy to be printed soon her experience of meeting the top industrialists of India Dhirubhai Ambani , Nusli wadia , Sumit Khatau etc I MEET SOME OF THE TOP INDUSTRIALISTS OF INDIA Since I was the Managing Director and CEO of my own publishing house therefore I went to meet directors of many companies to seek advertisements for our fourth coming projects - Books I had opportunity to meet a number of them, some of them were nobodies when I had first met them but today they are leading some of the top business houses in India. The first person I met was Dhirubhai Ambani, I had an appointment with him at court house Dhobhi Talao where he ran a business of sarees his brand was called Vimal sarees.I had to wait half an hour before he strode towards me,he had no striking good looks but something in his appearance made you sit up and take notice that here was no ordinary man he had the charisma to attract people towatds him, .Since I was very sure of my appearance I was always very egoistic in my behaviour I would always tick off people who would make me wait for them and this time too I told him on seeing him”Mr Ambani I am not in the habit of waiting for people for so long” “weren’t you served a cold drink,I think I sent you one?”,he said with a charming smile,”I am late because my company is going public therefore I am busy these days”,then after some general talks about his life abroad, his struggles to reach the top,his ambitions to leave a mark in the world he called his manager and he told him to release two pages of advertisements in my book, but instead of paying me in cash they wanted to pay me in their company’s shares after it was listed in the share market, but since I didn’t no head or tail about shares I refused the offer, but now when I see where the reliance shares have zoomed I regret refusing the offer The next industrialist I met was Sumit Khatau the doyen of the khatau industry he was a gentleman to the hilt,he gave me a few lovely sarees and also released advertisement in my book, before I left his presence he said”you really are very beautiful why don’t you take up modellling as a profession”,I had left modeling far behind and now I was mother of a kid with full responsibility of looking after my family, the carefree girl within me had left me far back, and inside was born a tough womam who had to face the world and make a living. When I met Mr Nusli wadia the owner of Bombay Dyeing I was thoroughly taken in by his looks,he carried himself so regally and elegantly that he reminded you of a prince of some state, he too released advertisements in my book, when the book was released his advertising agency found the clothes I had styled for my book very appealing and they asked me to hold a fashion show for them,my main occupation was writing,I could only design my own clothes and accessories. I didn’t want to get into something of which I had no proper knowledge so I declined their offer,I loved designing my own clothes and jewellary, since my mother was a rich industrialists daughter she was very friendly with pratap and Gopal bhai the owners of Tribhuwandas Bhimji Zaveri located at zaveri bazaar in those days, most afternoons found her with me in tow in their jewellary show room whilst she was busy chatting with them, drinking sherbets from their silver tumblers and shopping I loiterd around dealing in silver and I designed by own silver jewellary when I was a knee high girl, I still remember the great day when my favourite actress Nargis stopped me on the road and said”baby from where did you get this ornament you are wearing in your plaits”I started removing the ornaments from my hair and presenting it to her”I donot want these ornaments just tell me from where did you get them and I shall by them myself”,was her reply “I designed them myself”,I replied proudly, she was most astonished to hear this”come on I will show you the jewellar who made it for me”,and happily I showed her the jewellary shop.Nargis had been my favourite since I was a baby I have a photograph of myself when I was six months old learning to sit with a calendar placed before me and you have guessed right the calendar had a photograph of Nargis on it and since then I must have taken a liking to her and till this day she has remained one of my favourite actresses
