An Imitable Example by an MGOCSM Member -Mr. Mathew Alexander, (Read More to learn - How a 12th Grade Student could help a needy family with a Aishwarya Home) icon.org.in/mf/page7-pr.php On November 2, 2014, the Perunnal day celebrating the Feast of Saint Gregorios of Parumala, St. Gregorios Orthodox Church of Washington, DC made history with its generous donation to build the next Aishwarya home in Idukki for a needy family. Rev. Fr. Laby George Panackamattom, the Vicar led the Holy Communion services and intercessory prayers. Dr. Raju Varghese delivered the Sermon. In a brief function held after the Holy Communion services. respected Laby Achen spoke about the parishs decision to sponsor the building of a home for a poor family through ICON Charities, and introduced ICONs representatives Dr. Raju Varghese, Dr. Abraham Eappen, Mr. Regi Mathai and Mr. Oommen Kappil who came to the parish to receive the funds on behalf of ICON. Achen also pointed out that fundraising was meticulously handled by MGOCSM members of the parish, under the leadership of Mr. Mathew Alexander, a 12th Grade High School Student of the parish. Mr. Oommen Kappil in his remarks thanked the Vicar, MGOCSM and parish members for their generous support to build a house for a very deserving family. He also spoke briefly about ICON’s history of providing humanitarian assistance to needy families, primarily through its educational scholarships and low cost houses. Dr. Mary Abraham (Jaya), Parish Secretary also spoke about the imitable example of MGOCSM members and the need to harvest their potential for worthy causes. Mathew Alexander thanked the parish members for their wholehearted support, and also shared his wonderful experience which impacted him personally. The Church raised $7642.00 for this project, and on behalf of ICON, Dr Raju Varghese accepted the check from Rev Fr. Laby George. Another Generous Donation: After the program, one mother surprised the ICON Volunteers with her generous contribution towards the next Aishwarya Home. Dr. Mercy Thomaskutty, one of the senior members of the parish handed over a check for the amount of $ 4000.00 towards building the next home for a needy family. It was a humbling experience reminding us that God will provide for his children in amazing ways. May God bless Dr. Mercy and her family for their big hearts. ICON expresses its gratitude to the Vicar, Managing Committee members and the members of St. Gregorios Church for its generous support to build the house for a needy family. At this time, we would like to remember with gratitude other parishes that sponsored Aishwarya homes through ICON Charities. St. Thomas Indian Orthodox Church in Philadelphia has sponsored three houses during the past two years. St. Thomas Orthodox Church in Baltimore, MD was the sponsor of another house in Idukki last year.
