An Indian delegation comprising 13 journalists from Kolkatta Press Club on Friday visited the office of Project Management Unit, Board of Revenue. Project Director Irfan Elahi briefed the delegation that this initiative of Punjab government aims at securing the rights of land and increasing public access to those records through providing client-responsive services. He briefed about the project of computerisation of land records, and said the manual land records maintained by Patwaris were being digitised and Arazi Record was being established at tehsil level. He said computerised services for issuance of Fard and mutation of land would be delivered to the public in a transparent and efficient manner. The delegation was further briefed about the progress of the project and told that out of 36 districts, data entry in 23 districts had been completed and 98 out of 143 centres have been operationalised, in this regard. Irfan Elahi said that a well educated and trained staff was busy in providing computerised land records related services where Fard was issued in 30 minutes and mutation was completed in just 50 minutes. He further told the delegation that more than 99 percent beneficiaries of those centres were satisfied with the quality of services. He stated the project was being funded by World Bank and the donor had appreciated the performance of the project and admired it an exemplary project.
