An Indian teen killed herself after her mother ordered her to close her Facebook account A girl from India was so hooked to the networking site that her life wasn’t worth living without it. After being ordered by her mother to close down her Facebook account, the teenage girl was so devastated that she decided to end her life as well. 13-year-old Aditi Gupta was so distraught by her mother Mohanna who incessantly berated her for spending too much time on Facebook chatting with friends that she committed suicide in her bedroom. Before she left for work, mother told daughter that she wanted the account closed by the time she came back for lunch, only to return four hours later and find her dead body. The young girl was home alone when she decided to end it, with her father having left earlier for work and her elder brother at their grandmother’s for the holidays. 36-year-old Mrs Gupta regarded her daughter to be too young for Facebook and thought she was just wasting time on the social network. The case triggered serious debate in the country pertaining to Facebook, ‘loss’ of children to cyberspace contacts and parental responsibility following the incident. #share your comments on this incident
